It’s interesting, I’m working on a post similar to this, how not only locs are popular in Japan but that in Japan, there are groups that will get a perm for the sake of acheiving an afro vs straightening it.
This vid speaks on the “black culture” going on in Japan, the female of focus works at a store that offers black culture basically and tanning is required to work there. It would make me a hypocrite to say I agree with everything in this vid, imagine a white culture where you had to bleach your skin to work someone for instance, that would not go down well.
But I do like the fact that in yet another country where a “pale complexion” is what’s desired, they are going against the norm. It also highlights how much of an impact media has on us and our decisions. Proof positive that
some many of our choices and influences is coming from what we take in not just our choice to be whatever it is we’re desiring to be.
HUGE reason why we ought to be careful of what we put out there for the world for people to take in, and as it relates to natural hair discussions or race relations period, why we all so evaluate why we think the way we do about ourselves and seek to love ourselves as we were created, not see ourselves based on the lies we’ve been fed about who we are.
